  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, chopped
  • 1 tablespoons of fresh parsley, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons all purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Preparation:

Drizzle olive oil evenly in shallow baking dish. Preheat oven to 350.

While oven is preheating, mash chickpeas with mortar and pestle or in food processor. Add onions and garlic and blend.

Add remaining ingredients to make a thick paste-like consistency.

Shape into ping pong size balls and place in preheated baking dish. Bake for 15-20 minutes, turning halfway through cooking.

Serving Baked Falafel

Baked falafel can be served the same way fried falafel would be served. Try it in a pita sandwich with tahini and veggies or on a platter with some hummus and a Middle Eastern salad.

  • 1 teaspoon sage
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice and if you like it spicy use some Cayenne pepper

Directions:

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, mix together all the ingredients.
  2. Form into 12 equal portions, shape into patties and cook. You can either fry them or bake them it’s up to you.
  3. If frying: Coconut oil or olive oil is a great way to go.
  4. If baking: Use parchment and bake at 350 for about 30 minutes, give or take. Break one open to see if they are done cooking. I also highly recommend the use of a thermometer when cooking meat. The patties should reach at least 165 F. to be fully cooked.

AM Shake Q and A from my nutrionist

Subject AM protean shake I have a shake every morning please let me know if there is anything I should add or subtract a little ice and water coconut or almond milk 6-8 oz 1 teaspoon of spirulina (Optional) pgx daily Bee Pollen (Optional) sm handful caco nibs (Optional) flax seed oil or udols 3 6 9 oil Sun Warrior protein vegan powder 1 teaspoon natural peanut\almond butter (Optional) splash pure vinnella extract (Optional) couple of handfuls of kale and spinach organic blueberries & 4-5 strawberries 1/2 to 1/4 banana any thoughts on athletic greens or green vibrance in liu of the spirulina?

Subject AM protean shake Hi Vincent! Generally this goods good. The changes I would make to reverse DM and prevent more insulin resistance include: 1. Sun warrior is ok. We like a combo of proteins such as one that contains protein not solely from brown rice such as a brown rice/chia/hemp mix. We carry a GREAT one which is a wonderful source of protein but it also has phytocnutrients to help heal a system devastated from the effects of imbalanced blood sugar. Check it out: http://store.bloodsugarsolution.com/Store/Show/Protein-Shakes/739/Pure-Lean-Powder%2c-chocolate Comes in Vanilla too 2. Get rid of the acai juice!! Until you complete the program, abstain from ALL juice. It is a quick sugar and raises your blood glucose too quickly. WHile on the program we suggest taking out all juices... 3. Switch the peanut butter to 2 tablespoons raw almonds. Might be good to stay away from peanuts for now. 4. For greens- these are EXCELLENT: http://store.drhyman.com/Store/Show/SearchResults/406/PaleoGreens-Lemon-Lime 5. Dr Hyman would suggest NO banana while on the advanced plan. I think the berries are sufficient for now. However if you feel you need some more carbs ( if you feel shaky, lightheaded, or any other low blood sugar symptoms) than a small bit of banana is fine. Otherwise, try to only include the berries for now. 6. Make sure the almond milk is unsweetened. Sincerely, Lizzy Nutrition Coaching Department Ultrawellness Nutrition Coaching 11/26/2012 3:40 PM
